iPhone 15 release date: Here’s when the new iPhone goes on sale (2024)

There are no questions left about the iPhone 15 release date now that Apple has shown off its new phones. We know exactly when those devices arrive in stores as well as when Apple will start to take iPhone 15 preorders.

As a reminder, Apple introduced four new models at its September 12 product event. Besides the standard iPhone, Apple's releasing a 6.7-inch version as the iPhone 15 Plus. Meanwhile, there are a pair of Pro models — the iPhone 15 Pro and IPhone 15 Pro Max. Those latter two devices see the biggest changes, especially the Pro Max with a more advanced telephoto lens. But the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus get a number of upgrades too, most of them in the form of features Apple introduced to the iPhone 14 Pro models a year ago.

In addition to revealing features for all four models, Apple gave us pricing and release date information. Here's what you need to know about getting an iPhone 15 and what you'll pay for each model.

iPhone 15 release date: When the iPhone's coming

The iPhone 15 was announced at an Apple event on September 12. Apple says the new phones will arrive in stores on Friday, September 22. That's roughly 10 days after the launch event, keeping with Apple's usual pattern with past iPhone rollouts.

It's worth noting that all four iPhone 15 models are going to ship on September 22. Some reports had suggested production delays for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with concerns that Apple's most expensive phone was facing delays of three to four weeks. That turned out not to be the case, but we'd imagine iPhone 15 Pro Max supplies may be short; that could prevent Apple from delivering that particular model as quickly as its other devices.

You won't have to wait until September 22 to place your order for an iPhone 15. Apple says preorders will start September 15, a week before the iPhone 15's release date.

There's one other release date relevant to iPhone owners — when the full iOS 17 update comes out after a summer-long beta process. Apple also announce a ship date here — existing iPhone owners will be able to upgrade to iOS 17 starting on Monday, September 18. The iPhone 15 will ship with iOS 17 pre-installed.

iPhone 15 release date: What will the iPhones cost?

Only one of the new iPhone 15 models will cost more than its predecessor. The iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199 — $100 more than what Apple charged for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Otherwise, prices are unchanged from what the iPhone 14 lineup cost when it debuted. The standard iPhone 15 starts at $799, while the iPhone 15 Plus costs $899. The iPhone 15 Pro is $999 — $200 less than the new iPhone 15 Pro Max.
