Choosing the best ingredients

This recipe uses very simple ingredients, so I like to make sure those ingredients are high quality.

For the mayo, I recommend avocado mayonnaise. It’s a few dollars more, but it’s much healthier than mayo made from seed oils. I always recommend using mayonnaise made with healthy fats.

It’s also very important to use real crab meat!

Imitation crab meat is made with starchy fillers to hold it’s shape, which adds a lot of carbs. If those fillers contain wheat, then the imitation crab won’t be gluten free either.

Instead, I like to buy lump crab meat from the seafood section of the grocery store. I don’t eat a lot of seafood, so I don’t mind splurging for it once in a while.

Especially when it’s for this hot baked crab dip!

Serving cream cheese crab dip

The crab dip is so rich and delicious, you may be tempted to eat it right off a spoon!

But it does go really well with low carb sides like veggies or crackers. They add some nice crunch.

Flaxers are a tasty cracker replacement. You can also whip up flax seed crackers and other low carb crackers right at home!

Crunchy low carb vegetables like celery are also a good option. They don’t require any prep besides washing and chopping, and they are super low in carbs and calories.
